What I earned
I earned Securiti's AI Security & Governance certification, which certifies knowledge of the concepts and frameworks now shaping how organizations are allowed to build and run AI: core generative-AI concepts, global AI laws, compliance obligations, AI risk management, and AI governance frameworks.
It's the governance-and-compliance counterpart to the systems I build. I spend most of my time on the engineering side of AI — but the fastest-moving risk in this field isn't technical, it's regulatory, and this is where I closed that gap.
What I learned
- The generative-AI concepts regulators actually care about — where the risk concentrates (data leakage, model misuse, unbounded autonomy) and why it behaves differently from traditional software risk.
- The global AI-law landscape — the EU AI Act, emerging US state laws like Colorado's AI Act, and the compliance obligations that follow, so "is this AI system allowed?" becomes an answerable question instead of a shrug.
- AI risk management — how to identify, assess, and mitigate AI-specific risks across a system's lifecycle, rather than bolting it on after something ships.
- AI governance frameworks — the control structures (NIST AI RMF, ISO/IEC 42001, and similar) that turn "we should be responsible with AI" into concrete, auditable practice.
Why it matters
Everything I build now lives under this. Provenant, my AI-agent audit-trail engine, maps directly to these frameworks — EU AI Act Article 12, ISO 42001, SOC 2, NIST AI RMF. REDGuard and the compliance assistant I shipped for a regulated lender both live or die on whether they satisfy real obligations, not just whether they work in a demo.
Building AI systems is one skill. Knowing the laws, risks, and governance structures they have to satisfy is a separate one — and increasingly the one that decides whether a system ships or gets shelved. This certification is my stake in the ground that I take both seriously.
